Hi all, C here.
We've arrived safely in GZ after a long day of (more) paperwork. We spent a good part of the morning at the Chinese notary office finalizing Ashely's documents, so we'll have everything that we'll need here in GZ.
After the notary, we returned to the hotel for a brief lunch and some downtime. Today was the first day all week that the sun was out - of course it was our last day in Wuhan! So we took a mid-day walk to McD's for lunch. Once again (since our kids enjoy wearing shorts and the day was very comfortable) we were the subject of stares, side comments among passers-by, and potential child abuse charges (just kidding) because of how terribly underdressed the kids were. We were fine - thanks for your concern - we understand and don't have a problem with being the objects of such attention.
We left for the airport around 1:30 or so, and made a stop at Guiyuan Temple, one of the largest Buddhist Temples in China. Mr Grant gave another great tour, making sure that he gave us the full flavor of the local stories surrounding the temple and some of the people who lived and visited. (Pictures and more details coming...)
Our flight (more on this to come, as well) to GZ was delayed slightly, but we arrived less than 1 hour after our scheduled arrival time. We deplaned onto the tarmac and caught a bus (yes, that's what I said - "A" bus - singular) for the ride to baggage claim. The weather is very nice here so this was no big deal, but since we were last off the plane, we were last onto the bus. It was a bit crowded to say the least - so we jammed on the bus. D & K were offered two of the very few seats by some very kind natives. I held Ashley in my arm and AR & Mom did the best they could to hang onto the "subway-like" overhead hand-holds
We made it safely to baggage claim, got our stuff and met our new GZ guide Elvin. He seems like a really nice gentleman and was very helpful to Lisa as she made sure we got the rooms that we asked for - check-in took nearly 30 minutes! Apparently, they did not do a very good job of keeping track of what Lisa reserved - 2 rooms, either adjoining or very close together. She did not take "No" for an answer and we got rooms very close together on the same hallway.
The hotel is excellent - very large - and very well appointed. The rooms are 2-room suites with excellent features. (we'll try to post some photos of the room soon).
The boys are on another sleepover at AR's - very exciting!
So we set Ashley into her very comfortable crib, and she again fell right away to sleep. Ashley is sleeping much more now, even a great deal during the days. Lisa and I were discussing how this is most likely her coping mechanism as she adjusts to her new world, with the new people. (We saw this with Kyle, as well.) She must think that her new American family is from a nomadic tribe of wanderers since they seem to move from hotel to hotel. It will be nice to get her to her permanent home, so she can begin to establish some sense of place and permanence. Soon enough!
I am heading off to bed now, but hopefully we'll be able to post again shortly with more pictures.
G'night. Talk to you soon.
C
